संविधानमा अन्यथा लेखिएकोमा बाहेक प्रतिनिधि सभाको कार्यकाल पाँच वर्षको हुने व्यवस्था धारा ८५ मा छ। संकटकालको अवस्थामा संघीय कानून बमोजिम उक्त कार्यकाल एक वर्षसम्म थप गर्न सकिन्छ।
