Bracket Theory of Corporate Personality

Bracket Theory of Corporate Personality

Description

Also called the Symbolist Theory, it argues that only the members of a corporation are real, and the corporate name is merely a "bracket" (symbol) enclosing them for convenience. Against the Fiction and Realist theories, it holds that the bracket should be removed to reach the real persons behind it — a basis for lifting the corporate veil.
