Description

Law is not made by legislators but grows organically from the Volksgeist — the common consciousness, customs, and shared spirit of a people, evolving with the nation much as its language does. Savigny advanced this to oppose both natural-law rationalism and Thibaut's call to impose a uniform German code, insisting law must be discovered in a nation's history, not artificially codified.
