TU LL.B. Entrance Exam 2083: Pattern, Syllabus and Marks
Who sits this exam
The 3-year Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) of Tribhuvan University is open to graduates of any discipline. Every applicant, except foreign nationals, must pass the entrance exam run by the Office of the Dean, Faculty of Law, TU (Balkhu, Kathmandu) before any campus can admit them.
Exam pattern at a glance
The Faculty's official model question paper for the LL.B. Entrance Examination 2083 (academic year 2082/083 BS) sets out the format:
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Full marks | 100 |
| Pass marks | 40 |
| Time | 1 hour 40 minutes |
| Question type | Multiple choice, four options (a–d) |
| Language | Each question is printed in English and Nepali |
That is 100 questions in 100 minutes: one minute per question. Speed matters as much as knowledge.
Where the 100 marks come from
The note at the foot of the 2083 model paper gives the split:
| Subject | Questions |
|---|---|
| Jurisprudence (विधिशास्त्र) | 50 |
| Constitutional Law (संवैधानिक कानुन) | 30 |
| Muluki Civil Code, Muluki Criminal Code, Muluki Civil Procedure Code and Muluki Criminal Procedure Code | 20 |
Half the paper is jurisprudence, so jurists, schools of law and legal concepts decide most results.
What each part tests
- Jurisprudence: schools of law (natural, analytical/positivist, historical, sociological, realist), the leading jurists and their books, and legal concepts such as rights and duties, persons, possession, ownership and obligation. Revise with the Jurists and Theories libraries.
- Constitutional Law: the Constitution of Nepal (2072), above all the fundamental rights in Part 3 (Articles 16–46), the structure of the state, the judiciary and the constitutional bodies. See Articles and Commissions.
- Muluki codes (2074): key definitions, ages, limitation periods and punishments from the four codes in force since Bhadra 1, 2075. See Sentences and Key Acts.
Results and admission
According to the Faculty's admission notice, a separate merit list is published for each campus with the candidates who score at least 40%. When two candidates tie, merit is decided by the bachelor's percentage, then the +2 percentage, then the SEE/SLC percentage. Only candidates on a merit list can apply to a campus, within the deadline the notice sets.
Timeline to expect
In recent cycles the form has opened in spring and the exam has been held around Jestha–Ashar (June). Dates, fees and exam centres change every year, so follow the notices on the Faculty of Law website.
How to use this
- Practise at one question per minute. Full 100-question mocks build that pace.
- Spend about half your study time on jurisprudence, a third on the Constitution and the rest on the codes, matching the marks.
- Read the exam pattern and syllabus pages, then work through the model questions with answers.
